The Women’s Baltic Sea Handball League (WBSHL) is set to make a thrilling weekend with the first major tournament of the season.
All eight participating teams will gather from November 29th to December 1st for an action-packed three days of competition, hosted across Estonia and Lithuania. Fans can look forward to a total of 11 matches, featuring some of the best handball talent from the Baltic Sea region.
The league is already off to an exciting start, with four matches played in the past weeks. Latvian teams have faced off in two thrilling games, where REIR/Dobele SS emerged as the leading team, securing two wins against SK Latgols (29:26) and Jēkabpils SS (29:21). Additionally, Estonian champions “Mistra” claimed victory in a match against REIR/Dobele SS (24:21), but GrIFK won their domestic competitor HIFK (31:21), adding to the growing excitement of the season.
Last season, the league crowned its inaugural champions, with Finnish team GrIFK taking the top honors as the very first Women’s Baltic Sea Handball League champions. Lithuanian team VMSM Sostinės Tauras – VHC secured the silver medals, but will not participate in this season’s competition. Meanwhile, CASCADA – HC Garliava SM, also from Lithuania, earned the bronze and will be looking to build on their success this year.
This weekend’s tournament marks a pivotal moment for women’s handball, as it showcases the strength, skill, and spirit of the league’s players. With the participation of teams from Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Finland, the event will highlight the growing prominence of women’s sports in the region.
